Technical Data

Fibrous Casings feature exceptional diameter uniformity, excellent mechanical strength, and are permeable to smoke and water vapor.

Treatments

Regular Fibrous Casings, no internal or external treatment.
E-Z PEEL® Fibrous Casings provide easy product release for high speed peeling.
DS Fibrous Casings promote meat adhesion to products like pepperoni or salami during drying and it can be used to ensure casing adheres to meats such as bologna or cooked salami during slicing.
MP Fibrous Casings have a moisture proof coating to keep water in the product and oxygen out. Liver sausage and poultry rolls are products that are typically made in MP casing.
E-Z SMOKE® premoisturized Fibrous casing is treated with liquid smoke that will transfer smoke flavor and color to the surface of the product.
CARAMEL premoisturized Fibrous casing provides a caramel color ranging from golden to dark brown to the product surface.

All Fibrous Casings can be pre-stuck, vented (drilled) and printed in up to 6 colors.

Storage - Handling

Fibrous Casings, except SHIRMATIC and REELKASE, must be soaked 30 to 60 minutes in lukewarm water (30-40°C) before use. Because SHIRMATIC and REELKASE Fibrous Casings are pre-moisturized, they do not require soaking before use.

Store casings in a cool, dry place away from steam pipes or hot storage areas. Best storage temperatures are 40° - 75°F (4° - 24°C) where ideal relative humidity is between 60 and 70%. SHIRMATIC and REELKASE Casings must be stored away from freezing temperatures. Ensure that any unused casing is kept in airtight bags.

Product Guarantees

Product Guarantees are available through our Regulatory Affairs Department. The Product Guaranty is a legal document, stating that the Viskase Casing product complies with the United States Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act. Each guaranty is tailored to a specific Viskase Casing product, food application and customer, and must contain original signature to be valid.
